The only time Americans will know something about Ukraine

1. What is the most basic finding of the polls that have been released in the last week?
Most recent polls have shown an uptick in the support of impeachment, but there is still an overall negative reaction to the thought of impeachment.
2. What did YouGov and the Economist find that most Americans feel about the president's actions?
  • 52 percent of Americans said it is inappropriate for the president to request a foreign government open an investigation into a potential political opponent.
  • 22 percent said it was appropriate
  • 26 percent said they weren’t sure
3. What did that same poll find about American attitudes toward the president if he withheld funding to the Ukraine?
  • 62 percent of Americans said that it is inappropriate for the president to threaten withholding foreign aid to a country if it refuses to “take an action which personally benefits the President.”
  • 14 percent said it is appropriate,
  • 24 percent were not sure.
4. What change in attitudes did the Quinnipiac poll find?
In the poll they sent out on September 19th, there was a 5% increase in support for impeachment and a 12% increase in support from Democrats since July.

5. What is important about the time frame in which the poll was conducted?
The poll was the day before the story about the Ukraine government was leaked and only stayed open until the day before Nancy Pelosi talked about impeachment.

6. What recent related events are not accounted for in the results of these polls?
The poll was stopped before Pelosi's announcement, before the memo to the phone call between President Trump and Zelensky was released, and before the testimony of Joseph Maguire (Director of National Intelligence) so none of those have been factored in to show public change of opinions.

7. According to these polls, how many Americans are not paying attention to these developments?
42% weren't sure, or didn't know enough to say.

8. What do other polls say about the current state of the race to be the Democratic nominee?
The Selzer poll and the Mammoth poll both show that Warren and Biden are neck and neck with 22% and 20% of the vote. Sanders is in third with 11%.
